30th Year Photos/#46

You have to start somewhere.
The first photos I know of concerning my playing the hammer dulcimer are #42 and 46.  You’ll never guess where.  The 1979 Bennington, OK homecoming – the biggest event of the year!  Yep, there is always a big parade full of horses and riders, motorcycles and 4 wheelers, floats, the parade queen, candy thrown to the children, politicians, fire-trucks, police cars, lots of hugs, handshaking and fishing stories all wrapped up in the evening with the street dance which can be heard from miles away.  This particular year, there was something really different – there were dulcimers!  “What’s that – a cheese slicer?” and other derogatory remarks were made. There were lots of humorous and skeptical folks but they didn’t discourage David Lindsey and me.  It was one of the first of thousands of public performances for both of us.
