Boggy Bottom Babes and Boys Now here are a couple of good ones! What I can talk my sisters into boggles my mind! If I could just turn it into money I’d move to Beverly Hills! It was the 3rd Sawdust Dulcimer Festival in 2002 when I asked them to come up with a fun skit to break up the 10,000,000 ringing dulcimer strings on stage after a long day of hard playing and workshops. “Oh Brother, Where For Art Thou?” had been out on the big screen a couple of years and we all just fell in love with the tongue-in-cheek humor and music. If you’ve never seen the movie and love folk music and Shakespeare’s humor, take time to rent it. Being from the heart of back-woods Oklahoma, we identified with the deep-south humble attitudes presented in the movie and the funny but disrespectful conception of life in the south decades ago. So, on went the over-alls (all my old worn out wardrobe) hats, beards, flannel shirts and boots. The “Boggy Bottom Boys” were created! Lip singing to the “Man of Constant Sorrow” while dancing and mimicking George Clooney and friends on stage was a hoot. They were a HIT! Well, the next year, Annette, Janette and Sheryl decided to add an additional act portraying the Boys wives by sharing their real talents as vocalists, in character while sharing the woes of being spouses of good-ole-boys that love living in the country. The Boggy Bottom Babes came to be and the rest was history, which you really needed to be there to appreciate. I have video I wouldn’t sell for a million bucks! Please, for your benefit, never fail to act upon an idea founded in fun with the intention of lifting the spirits of others! ![]() |
